Academic Project, UC Berkeley: Arial Silk Gym

Teammates: Laurenne Ross, Madeira BooydeGraaff

This pavilion is intended to support the activity of aerial acrobatics, specifically aerial silks performances. Aerialists hang from a special fabric and use it to swing their bodies into different positions and fly through the air.
Therefore, our project is all about the z-axis, striving to create a tall multi-story column-free structure that can support the hanging weight of many people, and an audience at ground level.
Our Aerial Silks Center is located across the street from the San Francisco Circus Center in the open field of Kezar Triangle to highlight our structure’s verticality and allow for the park to become part of an extended performance and audience seating.
